Lyric Music & More: July 6

In the spirit of the recent Independence Day holiday, we bring you an inspiring song about an American adventurer that celebrates the tenacity of the human spirit. In this performance from The New Classics: Songs from the New Golden Age of Musical Theater, Tony Award-winner Gavin Creel sings the closing song from Adam Guettel's hit musical Floyd Collins, "How Glory Goes."

In addition to the internationally acclaimed singers, the cast of Twilight: Gods also featured several Chicago-based non-singing performers, as well as a group of young dancers from the Joffrey Academy. Learn more before watching the film, which will be released later this summer.

In this gorgeous excerpt from Magical Music Around the World, second-year Ryan Opera Center tenor Lunga Eric Hallam plays the djembe while singing two songs by South African composer Nomfundo Xaluva, with Craig Terry on piano.

Baritone Lucas Meachem has been a great favorite at Lyric from the very beginning of his career. He will portray Silvio in Lyric's upcoming filmed presentation of the one-act verismo opera Pagliacci. Learn more about the aptly nicknamed “rock star of opera” in this feature.

Youth Opera Council: making their mark

Lyric’s Youth Opera Council is a group of curious and artistically inclined teens from across Chicagoland. Lyric is now taking applications for the 2021/22 Council  find out more about the group and how tomorrow's young leaders are looking to change opera for the better.
