Lyric Family Favorites: January 29

We know you miss coming to the opera house—we do too. When you need something to look forward to, it’s nice to imagine that first day back: easily navigating to your new and improved seat, thanks to all of the accessibility upgrades, seeing familiar faces, and finally taking in the thrill of the live performance. You might even feel a bit like Elisabeth in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, returning at long last to the Hall of Song in eager anticipation of a reunion with Tannhäuser. Enjoy Amber Wagner’s shining soprano voice in this clip from Lyric’s 2015 production, as she sings the aria “Dich, teure Halle.”

Then, see how your new year’s resolution compares to these opera characters, watch Lyric favorite and soprano Ailyn Pérez headline a night of opera in Portugal, and find out where to catch more full-length opera streams next week.

“A Night at the Opera” with Ailyn Pérez

A concert of familiar favorites

Soprano Ailyn Pérez headlined a concert of familiar scenes from a number of beloved operas including Carmen, Cavalleria rusticana, Tosca, Candide, and more. Captured in front of a live audience before Portugal returned to a lockdown, the performance is a jubilant celebration of the art form.
