Lyric Music & More: June 14

Missing the opera house? We are too, but this break gives us a chance to think about some of the amazing history behind the building that Lyric calls home. If you’ve attended a performance at the Lyric Opera House, you have walked through the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Grand Foyer on your way to your seat. There are many things you might not know about this beautiful space. Music Director Enrique Mazzola takes us on a tour of the gilded foyer in this new episode of Exploring with Enrique.

Plus, June is Pride Month in Chicago and across the country, and we invite you to explore the history of LGBTQIA+ characters in opera. Other great content includes the chance to watch Martin Luther Clark and Denis Velez perform the “Cherry Duet,” learn about the stars headlining Lyric's Fiddler on the Roof this fall, and take a look back at the 2021/22 Season with some outstanding clips.

LGBTQIA+ characters have been present in opera since the beginning of the art form, even if they weren't explicitly acknowledged. Learn more about the evolution of LGBTQIA+ representation in our art form in this article.
