The work continues...

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis, Lyric has made the painful decision to cancel opera performances in the first half of the 2020/21 Season. This was a heartbreaking choice for us to make. But we know it was necessary to keep our artists, staff, and you (our audiences and supporters) safe, which is always our most important priority. We know that the music will return, and are hopeful that we will be able to reconvene our full audiences soon.

However, while our stage is dark this fall, artistic work continues. During this extended intermission, we are committed to:

  • Presenting an exciting slate of events, virtual concerts, and live performance formats that keep our artists and audiences safe;

  • Sharing online content for opera lovers and new audiences, including video and audio recordings;

  • Growing and showcasing the talents of the Ryan Opera Center Ensemble;

  • Creating educational resources for adults and kids to enjoy and learn at home; and

  • Installing new seats in the opera house that will be ready to enjoy when we can safely gather again.

Today, for this work to continue, we are asking you to make a financial contribution—For the Love of Lyric. The generous sponsors of our virtual season-opening celebration, For the Love of Lyric Concert, will match your thoughtful contribution.

To make your commitment, give online through our secure website, call Lyric’s Development office at 312.827.3500, or mail your gift to Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N Wacker Dr Ste 860, Chicago, IL 60606. You can also quickly and easily recommend a gift from your donor-advised fund through DAF Direct.*

Without ticket revenue, charitable contributions are even more vital to sustaining our company through this difficult time. This is YOUR Lyric. Your commitment is what will pull Lyric through this pause and usher us back to the stage. Thank you!
