Lyric Music & More: March 23

The members of the Ryan Opera Center Ensemble have given us so many extraordinary performances during Lyric’s virtual season. With Magical Music Around the World premiering days ago, following the wonderful Sole e Amore last month, the artists have covered an impressive array of styles. Remember when we enjoyed a tour of the Spanish-speaking world in song with Pasión Latina? In this excerpt, Ryan Opera Center baritone Ricardo José Rivera sings "Quizás, quizás, quizás" by Cuban composer Osvaldo Farrés, a song that has been used in more than 30 films and television series to date, and performed internationally by numerous artists including Nat King Cole and Doris Day. Enjoy this musical taste of Cuba while we look forward to warmer days ahead.

Plus, if you missed Magical Music Around the World, the Ryan Opera Center's sixth annual Gala, over the weekend, you can stream the full concert now; welcome the beginning of spring by reading up on the ever-changing role of the moon in classical music; celebrate Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s birthday with a clip from Lyric’s sensational production of Jesus Christ Superstar; and if you need more Rossini in your life, check out this greatest hits playlist ahead of next week's release of The Sonata Sessions, led by Music Director Designate Enrique Mazzola and featuring members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra..

Magical Music Around the World

The members of the Ryan Opera Center Ensemble enchanted us on Sunday night with their soaring voices and dynamic stage presence. Performing for the camera was not part of most opera singers’ skill sets before last year, and these talented musicians have risen to the challenge.

Time, love & madness: The moon in classical music

Spring is in the air, marked by the arrival of the Worm Moon later this month. Human fascination with the sun and moon, the planets and the stars has found expression in countless works of visual art, literature, poetry, and music, including some you’ll likely be able to hum along with.
