Behind the scenes:  Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis

Music Director Sir Andrew Davis leads members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Lyric Opera Chorus, and star soloists in a rousing concert honoring his remarkable career in Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis: From Mozart to Stravinsky. Take a peek behind the scenes of this virtual concert, and join us in raising a glass to the Maestro for more than three decades of beautiful music-making in Chicago.

Maestro Davis offers commentary on two of his favorite operas: Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress.

Recent Ryan Opera Center alumna Kayleigh Decker (Cherubino) returns to the Lyric stage in Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis, from Mozart to Stravinsky, performing excerpts from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.

Chicago native Janai Brugger does double duty in Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis, from Mozart to Stravinsky. The starry soprano can be seen singing the roles of Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and Anne Trulove in The Rake's Progress.

Ryan Opera Center alumnus and internationally renowned tenor Matthew Polenzani performs Tom Rakewell's Act One aria "Here I stand," one of the highlights he performs from Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. Polenzani is also featured in Attila Highlights in Concert: Explore More with Enrique Mazzola, streaming now on Lyric's Facebook and YouTube.

You don't need to make a deal with the devil to hear Kyle Ketelsen as the fiery Nick Shadow in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. In this virtual concert, the internationally celebrated bass-baritone also reprises his 2009/10 role as the title character in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro!

Celebrating Sir Andrew Davis, from Mozart to Stravinsky features the largest instrumental ensemble in any of Lyric's digital programming to date. Cheers to the wonderfully adaptable members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Lyric Opera Chorus for making this virtual concert a huge success!

The program includes selections from Mozart's beloved comedy, The Marriage of Figaro — the first opera Sir Andrew conducted at Lyric — and Stravinsky's English-language masterpiece The Rake's Progress — the last opera he would have conducted as music director this spring — with personal tributes from some of your favorite Lyric artists.
