We invite you to an intimate conversation with avery r. young, celebrated interdisciplinary artist, Chicago’s first Poet Laureate, and the composer, librettist, and star of the new opera safronia. The discussion will be moderated by distinguished Professor of Music in Entrepreneurship and Leadership at University of Michigan antonio c. cuyler, ph.d. and will also feature University of Pittsburgh’s Candace Burgess, composer Dr. Renée C. Baker, and curator Danny Dunson.  Together they will explore the music of America, the legacy of the Great Migration, and how family stories, folklore, poetry, and history come together to create opera. Join us as we delve into the ideas and inspirations behind this new work.
