Ann Toomey

A native of Shelby Township, Michigan and a third-year Ryan Opera Center Ensemble member, soprano Ann Toomey recently earned a master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Her performances there included Fiordiligi/Così fan tutte, Boonyi/Jack Perla’s new opera Shalimar the Clown (studio production), and soprano soloist/Brahms’s German Requiem. She was a member of the Gerdine Young Artist program at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2015, singing Gabrielle/La rondine and understudying the title role/Tobias Picker’s Emmeline. The soprano holds a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance and music education from Oakland University (Rochester, Michigan), where she was Despina/Così fan tutte, Nella/Gianni Schicchi, and soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. Toomey was a 2016 national semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and an award recipient in the 2015 Corbett Opera Scholarship Competition at UCC-CM. Concert engagements include the Grant Park Music Festival and Civic Orchestra of Chicago. The soprano debuted at Lyric as the First Lady/The Magic Flute. Last season she performed alongside Lawrence Brownlee in the Harris Theater’s Beyond the Aria recital series, and at Lyric she understudied Countess Ceprano/Rigoletto, Ortlinde/Die Walküre, and Fiordiligi/Così fan tutte. In 2018/19 she sings the Fifth Maid/Elektra and understudies Musetta/La bohème and Elettra/Idomeneo.
