Lyric, following the lead of our city, state, and federal elected officials, as well as the recommendations of the Chicago Department of Public Health, has made the difficult decision to cancel all performances of Wagner’s Ring cycle and its related festival programming. Learn more about the cancellation here.
When it comes to musical and theatrical grandeur, the fourth of the Ring operas is in a class by itself. At the center of it all is heroic Brünnhilde, who experiences horrific betrayal, desperate revenge, and finally profound understanding and acceptance. As her emotional journey concludes in the overwhelming Immolation Scene, Wagner remarkably brings to life the end of the old world and the beginning of a new one. Nothing less will suffice for the climax of the Ring cycle, opera’s most stupendous and monumental achievement.
