CHICAGO VOICES Groups Tell Their Stories Through Song!

Use YOUR voice to choose your favorite story!

Lyric Opera and Creative Consultant Renée Fleming recently launched Chicago Voices, a dynamic new initiative that celebrates the stories of Chicago’s communities and explores Chicago’s vocal traditions through the power of the human voice.

Lyric asked Chicagoans to send us their untold stories — parts of city life that may not appear on the news or in the papers — about the people and communities of Chicago. We invited groups to tell us how their community interacts with the city and how the city has been a part of defining their community.

We received applications from groups based in various parts of the city, all with unique stories to tell. Now, a review panel will select up to ten applicant groups who will advance to the semifinal round.  Their stories will be featured online for public voting, where we will be asking YOU to choose the stories you find most compelling. The three semifinalist groups who receive the highest number of votes will undertake a 16-week creative process to develop an original music theater work with the support of Lyric staff and artists, and receive a $10,000 stipend.

Check back in April to vote for your favorite! For more information on Community Created Performances, visit our website at WWW.CHICAGOVOICES.ORG
