Ryan Opera Center Endowment Gift in Memory of Richard P. Kiphart

For more than 20 years, Tom Hurvis has been an avid supporter of Lyric Opera of Chicago, driven by a steadfast commitment to keeping our city a haven for the cultural arts. His leadership on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Innovation Committee, and Lyric Unlimited Committee has propelled Lyric forward in new and visionary ways. In 2017, Tom reaffirmed his tremendous generosity and commitment to Lyric with a significant gift in memory of his good friend and former board chairman Richard P. Kiphart to endow in perpetuity one Ensemble position in The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center.

The Ryan Opera Center provides comprehensive, year-round education and performance opportunities to some of the world's most outstanding young singers and pianists, facilitating their transition from academic training to successful opera careers. Tom Hurvis's endowment will enable one Ensemble member each year to receive unparalleled performance experience, specialized training from expert faculty, and national visibility. Dick Kiphart, together with his wife Susie (immediate past president of the Ryan Opera Center Board), was passionately dedicated to the artists of the Ryan Opera Center, and we are honored that Tom has chosen to endow this position in Dick's memory.
