Week of August 24: Lyric Commentaries for opera streaming and more!

Hey opera lovers, we have quite the schedule for you this week. First, we're heading back to Glyndebourne for another all-star opera stream. On Tuesday, we're highlighting a brand-new initiative started by opera director Ella Marchment, and finishing the week strong with productions from the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Australia, Royal Opera House, and Houston Grand Opera.

Glyndebourne Festival
Purcell: The Fairy Queen

This production from Glyndebourne stars Lucy Crowe, Carolyn Sampson, Ed Lyon, and was directed by Jonathan Kent. The Fairy Queen was conducted by William Christie in 2009. This opera stream will be available through August 29, 2020. 

Tuesday, August 25

#OperaHarmony

Enjoy something different this week with #OperaHarmony. An initiative started by opera director Ella Marchment, #OperaHarmony was created in response to the onset of COVID-19, and has united over 100 opera makers from across the world in creating 20 new digital operas set to the themes of "distance" and "community." 

Each Tuesday in August, Opera Vision will stream five of these operas. Audience members will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite week to week.

The Metropolitan Opera
Verdi: Il trovatore
