Lyric Family Favorites: April 10
During times like these, it’s hard not to dream about travel. So many plans, big and small, have been put on hold as we stay in our homes – whether it was spring break or a big vacation, a wedding or graduation with loved ones, or even just taking a short drive to share a meal with friends and family. We’re all looking forward to the moment when we can venture beyond our walls and our yards together for more than a short jaunt to the grocery store.
So this week, we’re here to transport you, as only opera can do. We’re visiting the faraway land of Ceylon, where The Pearl Fishers is set, and you’ll hear tenor Matthew Polenzani as Nadir and baritone Mariusz Kwiecień as Zurga in the heartfelt duet “Au fond du temple saint,” recounting the moment they both fell in love with the same beautiful, veiled priestess. Lyric extends our warmest thanks to our union partners for allowing us to share some extended-length clips during this time!

Lyric is fortunate to have one of the most esteemed training programs for emerging opera artists in the world in The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center. If you’re missing live performance as much as we are, it might be music to your ears to hear that celebrated soprano and Lyric’s own Special Projects Consultant Renée Fleming will be featured in a number of online streams during the upcoming week. Enjoy her in Arabella from April 12-14 with Salzburg Easter Festival; in Der Rosenkavalier with Vienna State Opera on April 16; and at the Metropolitan Opera in Rusalka (April 13) and Der Rosenkavalier (April 19). Lyric is posting our own original commentaries to complement the Met broadcasts — enjoy!
