Our Spring Events: Domingo, Brownlee, Owens, and More!

Everyone knows that Lyric presents a glorious main stage season, with eight grand operas that never cease to inspire and amaze. Did you know that Lyric also presents a variety of programming that explores opera in its different forms and gives audiences access to some of the biggest stars in classical music? 

Living legend Plácido Domingo makes his only Chicago appearance of the year in a one-night-only celebration on Thursday, March 9. This thrilling concert will feature Mr. Domingo singing the role of Giorgio Germont in Act Two of Verdi’s La Traviataalongside soprano Ailyn Pérez in her Lyric debut and tenor Michael Spyres. For the second half of the concert, delight in a selection of popular opera arias and duets from the Italian and French repertoire. Maestro Eugene Kohn conducts this special event, which also features the acclaimed Lyric Opera Chorus and Orchestra.

Lyric Unlimited is excited to present the Chicago premiere of the chamber opera Charlie Parker's Yardbird on March 24 and 26. Based on the story of legendary saxophonist Charlie Parker, this electrifying work takes place in the twilight after Parker’s death, following the dynamic jazzman as he composes his final masterpiece, revisiting the inspirations, demons, and women who fueled his creative genius. Set in the famed New York City jazz club Birdland, the work stars tenor Lawrence Brownlee in the role of the “Yardbird” himself. Performances take place at the Harris Theater in downtown Chicago, and tickets begin at just $35.

Enjoy not only one but two audience favorites in a duo recital on Sunday, April 9! Renowned opera stars Lawrence Brownlee and Eric Owens will take the stage to perform a wide variety of music ranging from opera to spirituals. 

In April, attend an intimate recital with violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman, featuring large-screen enhancements that will help you enjoy his every note. This dazzling performance, his only Chicago appearance of the year, will feature works by Brahms and Prokofiev.
