Enrique Mazzola joins the Lyric family

Have you heard the news? Lyric has a new music director designate! Meet Enrique Mazzola.

Widely recognized as one of today’s foremost interpreters and champions of bel canto opera and a leading specialist in French repertoire and early Verdi, the eminent Italian maestro is in high demand worldwide as both an operatic and symphonic conductor.

Beginning with the 2021|22 season, he will take the helm as Lyric's next music director. Meanwhile, we had the privilege to welcome Enrique to the podium this past October as the conductor of Luisa Miller, kicking off the early Verdi series.

It's worth catching Luisa Miller just to witness the work of Mazzola, a masterly conductor with an evident theatrical sensibility. He brings shining promise for the near future at Lyric Opera.
