The New Classics in photos

Lyric is known for its big, grand-scale Broadway productions that have concluded the mainstage seasons since 2013, but this year called for something a little different. The New Classics: Songs from the New Golden Age of Musical Theater brings a star-studded Broadway cabaret right to your living room from a cozy corner of the Lyric Opera House, featuring some of your favorite Broadway and Lyric artists. Take a look at some behind-the-scenes photos of the production:

Broadway's David Chase serves as music director and pianist for this virtual concert celebrating new musical theater classics.

The New Classics was filmed in the old Civic Theatre space, a treasured historical corner of what is now the Lyric Opera House.

Gavin Creel (Waitress, Hello Dolly!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Book of Mormon) delivers familiar repertoire from Sondheim to Schwartz.

From The Secret Garden to Hamilton, Nikki Renée Daniels (Hamilton, Company) performs a wide variety of musical theater classics.

Norm Lewis (The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess, Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables) sings pieces from Once on this Island, Side Show, and other songs from his own Broadway catalog.

Amanda Castro (Lyric's West Side Story) sings and taps to "Raise the Roof" from Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party on the roof of her New York City apartment building.

Heath Saunders (Lyric's Jesus Christ Superstar) makes the jump from Gethsemane to Siam for their selection in The New Classics, performing "Something Wonderful" from their home in New York City.

Jo Lampert (Lyric's Jesus Christ Superstar) sings solo and with the other artists, filmed remotely in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for this intimate concert.

After soaring as Maria and Carrie Pipperidge on Lyric's stage, Jenn Gambatese returns with a Thoroughly Modern Millie classic, filmed at Duane Park, a burlesque supper club in New York City.

Accompanying the artists of The New Classics are music director and pianist David Chase, along with members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra (l-r) Ian Hallas (bass), Calum Cook (cello), and Robert Hanford (violin)  providing welcome backup on this virtual concert.

Don't miss The New Classics, premiering on Lyric's Facebook and YouTube channels on Thursday, June 10 at 7pm CT!
