Behind the scenes of Rising Stars in Concert

Rising Stars in Concert is an annual showcase of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, one of the world's leading artist-development programs. Featuring conductor Christopher Allen at the podium leading the 2020/21 Ensemble along with members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Ensemble pianist Chris Reynolds, this year's Rising Stars in its virtual format is bound to be a captivating hour of music you won't want to miss on Thursday, April 29 at 7:00pm CT. Take a look behind the scenes from the concert's recent recording sessions:

Baritone Ricardo José Rivera, a third-year Ryan Opera Center Ensemble member, sings “O vin, dissipe la tristesse” from Ambroise Thomas's Hamlet.

Bass-baritone David Weigel, a third-year Ensemble member, performs with Maestro Christopher Allen and members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra.

The Ryan Opera Center Ensemble members were able to sing duets safely for this virtual concert, thanks to Lyric's strict safety protocols. Here is first-year mezzo-soprano Katherine DeYoung singing with second-year bass Anthony Reed, safely distanced from each other and from the Lyric Opera Orchestra members accompanying them.

First-year soprano Denis Vélez and first-year tenor Martin Luther Clark (off camera) perform in a beautiful duet from Mascagni's L'amico Fritz.

Another romantic duet to melt all hearts, "Il core vi dono" from Mozart's Così fan tutte, is performed by first-year baritone Leroy Davis and second-year mezzo-soprano Kathleen Felty.

In addition to serving as part of the accompaniment for his singer colleagues, Ryan Opera Center Ensemble pianist Chris Reynolds is also featured in a Brahms piano quartet with members of the Lyric Opera Orchestra as part of Rising Stars in Concert.
