Preview Charlie Parker’s Yardbird – A Chamber Opera on WFMTSaturday, November 19 at 12 noon
This March, Lyric Unlimited presents the exciting Chicago premiere of the chamber opera Charlie Parker’s Yardbird, a new American work that The New York Times called “a 90-minute, swift-paced chamber opera with a pulsing, jazz-infused score” in its 2015 world premiere. Chicago opera fans are already reserving their seats to see this story of the jazz great, starring tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Charlie Parker, Ryan Opera Center alum Will Liverman as Dizzy Gillespie, and an impressive cast that brings the work to life at the Harris Theater (March 24 and 26, 2017).
On Saturday, November 19, tune in to 98.7WFMT at 12 noon (CDT) to hear the broadcast of Opera Philadelphia’s production at the Apollo Theater in New York — part of the network’s American opera series.

Opera Insider Series – 2017 Series Reservations Now Open!
Ever wish you knew more about an opera before seeing it for the first time? Ever wanted a deeper understanding of an opera you already know and love? The Opera Insider series will give you all that and more in a casual, relaxed, and social environment.
For each opera of Lyric’s season, music historian and opera expert David Buch hosts a session illuminating the work’s creation, its composer, its musical and dramatic highlights, and its particular magic. Each session will also welcome a special guest from Lyric’s Technical Department to share the inner workings of each production, including set and costume design insights, interpretation, stagecraft, and construction. Beyond the Aria Features Renée FlemingNovember 16 at the Harris Theater
Harris Theater’s intimate Beyond the Aria recital series, in association with Lyric Unlimited, continues this season. Join some of Lyric’s favorite voices with pianist Craig Terry, Ryan Opera Center music director and Beyond the Aria artistic director. The next performance is on Wednesday, November 16, at 7:30pm and features Lyric creative consultant and acclaimed soprano Renée Fleming, who will be joined by Ryan Opera Center mezzo-soprano Annie Rosen and baritone Takaoki Onishi.
