An Afternoon of Chamber Music

Preview Charlie Parker’s Yardbird – A Chamber Opera on WFMT

Saturday, November 19 at 12 noon

This March, Lyric Unlimited presents the exciting Chicago premiere of the chamber opera Charlie Parker’s Yardbird, a new American work that The New York Times called “a 90-minute, swift-paced chamber opera with a pulsing, jazz-infused score” in its 2015 world premiere. Chicago opera fans are already reserving their seats to see this story of the jazz great, starring tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Charlie Parker, Ryan Opera Center alum Will Liverman as Dizzy Gillespie, and an impressive cast that brings the work to life at the Harris Theater (March 24 and 26, 2017).

On Saturday, November 19, tune in to 98.7WFMT at 12 noon (CDT)  to hear the broadcast of Opera Philadelphia’s production at the Apollo Theater in New York — part of the network’s American opera series.
