Charlie Parker’s Yardbird — Enjoy a Free Post-Opera Performance from Chicago Jazz Philharmonic

March 24 & 26 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance

Chicago is buzzing with anticipation about Charlie Parker’s Yardbird, a new American chamber opera that Lyric Unlimited presents in its Chicago debut on Friday, March 24 and Sunday, March 26. The New York Times called the 2015 world premiere “a 90-minute, swift-paced chamber opera with a pulsing, jazz-infused score.” Chicago opera fans are already reserving their seats to see this story of the great jazz saxophonist, starring tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Charlie Parker, Ryan Opera Center alum baritone Will Liverman as Dizzy Gillespie, and soprano Angela Brown as Parker’s mother, Addie. Both performances at the Harris Theater will feature a pre-performance talk an hour before the opera. After the show, audience members will be invited to stay for a performance of Parker’s music by members of Orbert Davis’s Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. Capacity is limited, so don’t miss this unique and exciting music event! Book your seats today.
