Sid Chand
Tenor
Sid Chand, a New Zealand Fijian-Indian tenor, is a first-year member of the 2026/27 Ryan Opera Center Ensemble. In 2025, he was named a Manetti Shrem Opera Program Fellow at Festival Napa Valley, where his assignments included covering the role of Tonio in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment. Most recently, he made debuts with Livermore Valley Opera and the San Francisco Symphony. Other roles include Rinuccio/Gianni Schicchi, Ferrando/Così fan tutte, and Miles/Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up. A strong advocate for contemporary music, Chand premiered Alexander Cowdell’s A Place of Quiet with the Auckland Youth Orchestra. After receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Auckland, he continued his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, earning a Professional Studies Certificate and Artist Diploma. Chand is supported by several major New Zealand arts foundations, including the Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation, Circle100, and the Mardell Cosgrove Foundation Trust.
In Lyric’s 2026/27 Season, Chand will sing Notary/Don Pasquale and Gastone/La traviata.
