Mariusz Kwiecień

Baritone

The internationally celebrated Polish baritone triumphed as Bizet’s Zurga two seasons ago at the Metropolitan Opera (new production, HD). Kwiecień appears this season at London’s Royal Opera House as Marcello/La bohème and Don Giovanni, while also starring in the title role/Eugene Onegin at the Vienna State Opera. He has portrayed Onegin to great acclaim at Lyric, the Metropolitan Opera (new production, HD), the Bolshoi Theatre, the Polish National Opera, Bavarian State Opera, and other major houses. Another signature role, Don Giovanni, has been a triumph for Kwiecień in nearly 20 productions worldwide, including those of the Met (new production, HD), San Francisco Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Tanglewood, the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden, and Munich’s Bavarian State Opera. Among his other acclaimed portrayals have been Rodrigo/ Don Carlo (San Francisco, London), and the Duke of Nottingham/Roberto Devereux (Met – company premiere, HD). Major successes in his native repertoire include the title role/Szymanowski’s Król Roger (Opéra National de Paris, The Santa Fe Opera, Covent Garden, Bilbao’s ABAO) and his first solo CD, Slavic Heroes. In addition to the Bolshoi’s Onegin and the Met’s Don Pasquale and Lucia di Lammermoor, Kwiecień can be seen on DVD in the Brahms Requiem with the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
