At one of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s Backstage Tours!
Journey into the recesses of opera production as you take a 10-stop excursion behind the curtain of Lyric Opera of Chicago. On our Backstage Tour, you'll gain deep insight into how the stunning beauty and enthralling music of an opera performance is brought to life onstage for the enchantment of audiences.
Your two-and-one-half hour, 10-stop tour will be guided by professional staff and trained volunteers and peppered with interesting discussion and demonstrations by experts in our various staging areas. From makeup and wardrobe, to props and scenery, to the orchestra pit, you'll see close-up how imaginations can be stirred and illusions created from sometimes simple, ordinary items.

For a distinctive experience, our Premier Tour option offers a private excursion with a maximum of 10 guests per guide. Following the tour, you will enjoy an elegant gourmet luncheon presented by Calihan Catering, in an exclusive private dining room with a Lyric Opera insider.
Guests who take the Premier Backstage Tour will also have a personal photo taken of them on the Main Stage and will receive an additional complimentary parting gift from Lyric Opera's Board of Directors. Premier Tours are $150 per person and depart between 10:30 am and 11:00 am.

Our Classic Backstage Tour departs every half hour between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on both dates and is $35 per person. Classic Tour guests have the option to purchase either a turkey or vegetarian light box lunch from e•leaven Food Company, served in the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Grand Foyer prior to and following the tour.
Group tours are available for parties of 15 or more at a rate of $30 per person. Box lunches are also available by reservation for Group Tour participants. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of the reservation.

Classic and Group Tours will depart within 30 minutes of the scheduled time. Please allow 2-1/2 hours for your tour. Optional lunch is served either before or after your tour and is not included in the total tour time. Tours are not recommended for children under 10 years old. Since this is a walking tour, please contact us with any special needs.
