 Experience this enlightening series with music historian and opera expert David Buch. Whether you’re eager to learn more before seeing and hearing an opera for the first time, or you’re craving a deeper understanding of an opera you already know, you’ll enjoy David’s in-depth exploration of each opera in the 2020|21 Season. Sessions will discuss the work’s creation, its composer, its musical and dramatic highlights, and its particular magic. You’ll hear from a special guest from Lyric’s technical department, who will share insights into set and costume design interpretation, stagecraft, and more.

Civic Opera Building Conference Center
Due to building construction, Opera Insider has been relocated to the 20th floor Civic Building Conference Center. Please enter through the same revolving doors in the middle of the block at 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago. Take the elevators on your RIGHT to the 20th floor. There will be signage on the 20th floor to direct you to the new Conference Center.

No tickets will be issued for the Opera Insider Series. After registering, your name will automatically be added to our class roster and we will look forward to seeing you at your first session.

David Buch, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, is a music historian whose expertise ranges from the 17th through the mid 20th centuries, particularly Mozart, opera, and the Baroque. He's known to Lyric audiences for his popular pre-opera talks on Mozart operas.

 

Presented by Lyric Unlimited, Lyric Opera of Chicago's department dedicated to education, community engagement, and new artistic initiatives.
