Program Details

Lyric Opera offers complimentary passes to the final dress rehearsal of select productions to groups of CPS students in grades 6-12.

  • A wait list of schools will be generated once availability is depleted 
  • Schools must complete a simple application (see below)

NOTE: These are dress rehearsals, not performances. The rehearsal may be interrupted at any time and singers might not use full voice.

NOTE: Final dress rehearsals include a diverse mixture of audience members. While student seats will be grouped together by school, there may be other schools, as well as a variety of other opera patrons in attendance.

The Barber of Seville

Sung in Italian with projected English translations

Wednesday September 25 at 1pm

Sparks fly between the witty Rosina and hopeless romantic Count Almaviva, but Rosina is betrothed to her pompous old guardian. Enter matchmaker Figaro: the cleverest barber in all of Seville whose talents go far beyond cutting hair!

Approximate running time: 3 hours 5 minutes including one intermission.

Luisa Miller

Tuesday October 8 at 12pm

A star-crossed romance by the composer of La Traviata and Rigoletto about sweet Luisa and her love for Rodolfo, the son of a ruthless, unethical nobleman whom Luisa’s own father loathes.

Madama Butterfly

Monday February 3 at 1pm —

A heartbreaking story about Cio-Cio-San, who sacrifices family and culture to marry B.F. Pinkerton, only to see his ship sail away. We share her joy when he finally returns, and her utter despair when she realizes that he’s married an American woman and has come to take his young son—Cio-Cio-San’s child—back with him.

The Queen of Spades

Wednesday February 12 at 1pm

A brooding romantic thriller from the composer of Eugene Onegin and Swan Lake. Gherman is an unhappy soldier desperate to learn a secret hidden by a mysterious old countess - the mystery of winning at cards. As his obsession begins to overwhelm him, it also affects the ones he loves and leads to his ultimate demise.

Thursday May 28 at 2pm  

The story of Peggy Sawyer, an aspiring actress from Allentown who gets her big break and rises from chorus girl to star status overnight. 42nd Street is filled with unforgettable characters, sensational tap numbers, and memorable melodies.
