Lyric has not one but two romantic pairs in Puccini‘s Madama Butterfly this season! All four artists have enjoyed huge acclaim in the world’s most important opera houses, and Butterfly has been a great success for all of them.
As we head into the second half of our season, we bring with it soaring vocals in Madama Butterfly, a romantic thriller with Queen of Spades, the epic RING cycle, a Chicago premiere of Blue, and Lyric's broadway spectacular, 42nd St.
In this issue you'll learn more about these productions, the artists bringing the characters to life, and catch up on the latest Lyric news!
Brandon Jovanovich is simply the most versatile tenor performing internationally. Luckily for Lyric, he's here in four widely contrasting roles this spring! (Lucky for Brandon, too, as he lives in the area and gets to spend some time at home with his family!)
In June, Lyric will present the Chicago premiere of Blue, by composer Jeanine Tesori and librettist Tazewell Thompson. Lyric is planning an array of community programs to bring audiences further into issues that are central to this extraordinary new opera, which focuses on the senseless violence affecting one African American family.
Norm Lewis and Faith Prince will make their Lyric debuts in the roles of famed Broadway director Julian Marsh and Dorothy Brock, the seasoned diva who sees her star status eclipsed by a rising newcomer. You may be thinking, “I know those names…but from where?” Learn a all about our 42nd Street stars and get your tickets for the Tony-winning song-and-dance spectacular today!
