The Last Step Toward the RING

Over the course of one amazing week in July, the entire creative team from Lyric’s upcoming Ring cycle converged in Chicago for summer technical rehearsals for Götterdämmerung. It’s the fourth and final opera of Wagner’s Ring cycle that brings the end of the old world and the beginning of a new one. It also represents the ongoing evolution of this monumental new production for Lyric’s technical and stage teams and is the first time that director Sir David Pountney’s vision, the set design, costume design, lighting, and choreographic work has been fully explored on Lyric’s stage.

The images here will give you the very first look at some of the dramatic scenic and lighting designs that, until now, had been represented in model form, in drawings, and in lighting plots. We’ve had a chance to see it in three dimensions and wanted to share a very special behind-the-scenes glimpse with you.
