Student Dress Rehearsals

There’s nothing like sharing the magic of opera with young audiences, an art form where so many elements of the arts blend seamlessly for one spectacular performance. With opportunities for students grades 6-12, we invite you to bring your student group to experience a show at Lyric Opera of Chicago this season.

Student Dress Rehearsals

  • Open to all schools. Limited capacity, so book early!

  • A free opportunity to attend a final working rehearsal of the show.

  • You'll see the tech table set up during the show.

  • Dress rehearsals typically do not stop and start, but as working rehearsals, they may. Also, singers may choose not to sing full voice during these rehearsals.

  • Bus scholarships are available for free dress rehearsals, while funding is available.

  • A wait list of schools will be generated once availability is depleted.

The Student Dress Rehearsal program offers Behind the Curtain — an in-school experience! Prior to attending the opera, a professional Lyric teaching artist visits the classroom to lead an engaging 45-minute session, introducing students to the storyline, key themes, musical highlights, and production elements they will soon experience in the opera house. To extend the learning, educators will receive reflection questions to facilitate discussion with students after attending the performance. Behind the Curtain is a complimentary program based on availability.

See below for descriptions of each opera.
