On Saturday, October 7, from 9am to 7pm the phone lines will be open and Operathon 2017 will broadcast live from the Lyric Opera House on 98.7WFMT (streamed on WFMT.com). A marvelous mix of artists from Lyric’s new season and behind-the-scenes staffers will engage in lively conversations about everything that Lyric does at the opera house and beyond. Musical interludes will be plentiful, highlighting operas and artists of current and past Lyric seasons. Operathon concludes at 7:00 as we turn the broadcast over to Roger Pines and WFMT’s Lisa Flynn for the live opening of Rigoletto at 7:30 p.m.
Operathon 2017 supports the Education and Community Engagement Programs of Lyric Unlimited, which provides a broad, deep, and relevant cultural service to the Chicagoland area through a diverse range of programs and performances.

PBS TO FEATURE ORPHÉE ET EURYDICE ON GREAT PERFORMANCESYou can be in the audience as the performances are filmed on October 6 and 9.
Lyric Opera of Chicago is pleased to announce that Thirteen Productions LLC for WNET New York has selected the world-renowned opera company’s premiere production of the 1774 Paris version of Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice, created by the legendary choreographer John Neumeier and featuring The Joffrey Ballet, to be part of the prestigious Great Performances series on PBS.
Now in its 45th season, PBS’s Great Performances has an extensive history of capturing noteworthy live performances for national broadcast. Matthew Diamond, who directed NBC’s televised live production of The Wiz, and Lyric’s world-premiere of Bel Canto – the Opera for broadcast on Great Performances in January 2017, will direct the television presentation of Orphée et Eurydice, collaborating with the award-winning production team from WNET and Great Performances executive producer David Horn.

Lyric Opera of Chicago is proud to partner with the Chicago Architectural Foundation for the fifth consecutive year for Open House Chicago, a free, city-wide, behind-the-scenes look at many of the city’s great places and spaces.
The 7th Annual Open House Chicago is a 48-hour festival on October 14 and 15. During that weekend, visitors will have access to over 200 buildings across Chicago. Explore repurposed mansions, hidden rooms, sacred spaces, private clubs, iconic theaters, offices, hotels and more — all for free.

Lyric Opera of Chicago is thrilled to present international singing phenomenon Choir! Choir! Choir! at the Lyric Opera House (20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago) on Saturday, October 21 at 8pm. Hailed by The New Yorker as “a profound way for people to connect and interact,” Choir! Choir! Choir! blurs the lines between being an audience member and a performer by bringing strangers together to sing popular songs.
All attendees will receive a sheet of music lyrics, be evenly divided based on voice types and ranges, and taught vocal harmonies. Magically, a beautifully unified choir will be formed within only 90 minutes. Tickets for this family-friendly event, taking place in Lyric’s gorgeous art-deco style Rice Grand Foyer, are just $25 and are available now. For the first time in the city of Chicago, legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli will headline at the United Center on December 6 in coordination with Lyric Opera of Chicago. He will be accompanied by the acclaimed Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Eugene Kohn. He will also be joined by soprano Larisa Martinez and Broadway sensation Heather Headley.
