Keep opera alive over the summer
Opera at Lyric may pause during the summer months, but there are still plenty of ways to stay connected to the art form — whether you're looking to attend a live performance, enjoy streaming from home, or deepen your appreciation through a great read. Here’s how to keep opera alive all summer long, right here in Chicago and beyond.
Experience live opera around the city
Grammy Award-winning soprano Ana María Martínez returns to Lyric in the 2025/26 Season in two operas — first, as the devious and delightful Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and later, as Catrina in the Lyric premiere of Gabriela Lena Frank and Nilo Cruz’s El último sueño de Frida y Diego. See Martínez this summer in recital at Ravinia Festival on July 30, 2025. Accompanied by pianist Kevin Murphy, Martínez brings her signature emotional depth to a program of classical song in the intimate Bennett Gordon Hall.
