Described as "star quality" by the Boston Globe, Susan Warner is a clarinetist in the Lyric Opera of Chicago Orchestra. In addition to her position at the opera house, Susan is a member of the Prairie Winds, a nationally touring wind quintet with an annual residency at Madeline Island Chamber Music. Also a member of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, Susan was recently featured as soloist in Bernstein's Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs. Susan has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the CSO's MusicNOW contemporary music series, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra.
Susan has appeared at the acclaimed music festivals of Schleswig-Holstein, Heidelberg Castle, Grand Teton, Music Academy of the West, and Aspen. Twice invited to participate in the Tanglewood Music Center, Susan was awarded with special honors — the Gino B. Cioffi prize for outstanding clarinetist and the C.D. Jackson Award for distinguished musician.
Susan lives in Oak Park with her husband Chicago Symphony hornist David Griffin and their children Henry and Pearl. Together Susan and David homeschool their children, allowing the family to extensively travel the world. Recent voyages have taken them to New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Panama, Turkey, and Europe.
