Miguel Sandoval (1902 – 1953), who became a naturalized American in his early twenties, was the most famous Guatemalan-born musician of his time. Having shown talent at the piano at an early age, he was a penniless 16-year-old when he arrived in New York. Eventually he worked on the musical staff of the Metropolitan Opera and as a private vocal coach, a conductor for smaller opera companies, a composer for Hollywood films, and, during his later career, a composer, conductor, and pianist for CBS. He died as the result of a heart attack suffered while rehearsing one of his orchestral pieces at New York's Lewisohn Stadium.

The Spanish influence so prominent in much of Sandoval's music is evident in the thrilling rhythms of his passionate "Sin tu amor" ("Without Your Love"), written in 1936. The singer is longing for his love to come to him, since without her lips and her eyes, life is meaningless. If he hears her saying "I love you," he would fall at her feet and would whisper "I love you" back to her.

Miguel Sandoval (1902-1953), quien se nacionalizó estadounidense a los veinte años, fue el músico guatemalteco más famoso de su tiempo. Habiendo demostrado talento para el piano a una edad temprana, tenía 16 años sin un centavo cuando llegó a Nueva York. Con el tiempo trabajó en el personal musical de la Metropolitan Opera y como entrenador vocal privado, director de compañías de ópera más pequeñas, compositor de películas de Hollywood y, durante su carrera posterior, compositor, director y pianista de CBS. Murió a consecuencia de un infarto que sufrió mientras ensayaba una de sus piezas orquestales en el Lewisohn Stadium de Nueva York.

La influencia española tan prominente en gran parte de la música de Sandoval se hace evidente en los emocionantes ritmos de su apasionado "Sin tu amor", escrita en 1936.
