Pre-Opera Talks

Pre-Opera Talks

Enjoy Free Talks Before Every Opera Performance

Your ticket to the opera is also a ticket to learn more about the fascinating background of each production. Join us in the theater one hour before curtain time for a free, 30-minute preview talk. Learn about the composer, the themes within the music and drama, and mingle with your fellow operagoers!  Free pre-opera talks are offered before every performance of every opera in the mainstage season to enhance the opera-going experience.

All pre-opera talks take place on the main floor of the Ardis Krainik Theatre in the Civic Opera House. Seating is unreserved, and while there is no charge for admission, an opera ticket for that specific performance is required. Doors open approximately 15 minutes before the start of the talks, which begin an hour before the performance begins.

This season's speakers include:

Les Troyens
  Roger Pines
Richie Hofmann (11/26)
Don Quichotte
  Derek Matson
The Magic Flute
  David Buch
Norma
  Jesse Rosenberg
Carmen
  Jesse Gram
Eugene Onegin
  Wynne Delacoma

There is no pre-opera talk for opening night, special events, or musical performances.
