Ryan Opera Center Internship

Position: Intern – Ryan Opera Center
Supervisor: Dan Novak

Time Commitment:   Part-time 2-3 days week (Mon, Wed, Fri)/approx 8-10 hours per week for 3 months

The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center was established in 1974 as the professional artist-development program for Lyric Opera of Chicago. Since its inception, the Ryan Opera Center has been recognized as one of the premier programs of its kind in the world. That standing is maintained by providing the finest up-and-coming singers with unparalleled training and experience.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the processing of applications and requests for information for the national preliminary auditions including preparing materials for auditions, data entry, and processing large mailings of results. (exempt fall term)
  • Assist with arrangements for the final auditions held in September.
  • Assist with preparations for Ryan Opera Center Board Meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining Ryan Opera Center files for concerts, recitals, invoices, auditions, and various marketing materials.
  • Other clerical duties as assigned.


  • Assist in coordinating various aspects of Ryan Opera Center productions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting at auditions, rehearsals and performances.


Required Knowledge/Skills:

Successful applicants should have a working knowledge of Windows based applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other database applications.  He or she should be a self-starter and have a genuine interest in the production and administration of the arts.  Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills (including attention to detail), have a working knowledge of music, and some experience in an office environment.
