Lyric and AGMA Settle Contract

Terms of Lyric Opera of Chicago’s new contract with AGMA were released today following ratification by all parties.

The new contract covers the 2011/12 season.

Kenneth G. Pigott, President and CEO of Lyric Opera of Chicago, stated, “We thank the union membership for partnering with us to reach a settlement that supports the financial integrity of the company, which of course, benefits all Lyric’s employees, artists, and patrons.”

James Odom, national president of AGMA, stated, “With this contract AGMA artists have invested in Lyric Opera. We are hopeful about the prospects for the company’s future as we move forward.”

The agreement calls for a 5% reduction in base salaries. In addition, a framework for the 2013 production of Oklahoma! was agreed upon. This will allow Lyric to continue its plans to present this American musical-theater classic within a cost structure that is competitive with other Chicago producers.
