Lyric Opera of Chicago to hold dance auditions Saturday, June 20 at the Civic Opera House for Hector Berlioz’s The Damnation of Faust – seeking 18 solo dancers (9 female/9 male) + two covers including one highly trained female dancer w/experience pole dancing

Lyric Opera of Chicago is auditioning highly-trained male and female dancers with contemporary dance experience and classical training for its upcoming production of The Damnation of Faust by Hector Berlioz. This new production will be directed by Stephen Langridge with choreography by Philippe Giraudeau, assisted by ballet mistress August Tye.

The Damnation of Faust requires 18 solo dancers (9 female/9 male) with two covers (1 female/1 male).

We are also seeking one highly-trained female dancer who has had previous experience with pole dancing. A pole will  not be available during auditions so we ask candidates to bring a DVD sample to the audition. If you would like to submit a sample via email, please send it, in advance of the audition date to . Dancers with musical-theater experience, jazz dance, mime, and strong acting skills are also encouraged to attend.

Rehearsals begin January 18, 2010, with seven performances running from February 20 through March 17, 2010.

Auditions will be held at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Drive (stage-door entrance).

12:00 p.m. Registration
12:45 p.m. Class
1:30 p.m. Audition
4:30 p.m. Callbacks

Dancers should bring comfortable dance shoes of their preference. Pointe shoes are not required.

You must make an appointment to audition.  Walk-ins will not be seen.  Please call Stephanie Karr at (312) 827-3567 to schedule an audition.

All applicants must use the stage-door entrance at Wacker and Washington. All applicants must check in and register for the audition before the audition class. A résumé and headshot are required to register.

Please be prepared to show a government-issued photo identification card to gain access to the Civic Opera House. All applicants must have valid eligibility to work in the United States. Lyric Opera will not apply for working permits for foreign dancers.
