Marketing/PR Coordinator

Reports to:  Director of Marketing
Status :  Full-time, Non-Exempt

Lyric Opera of Chicago exists to provide a broad, deep and relevant cultural service to the Chicago region and the nation, and to advance the development of the art form of opera.

We are searching for a Marketing/PR Coordinator.



  • Participate in execution of PR and Marketing projects, including circulating proofs and ensuring appropriate approvals for subscription and single ticket brochures, flyers, and other printed or digital media.
  •   Write and edit copy, collaborate in design, editing, proofing, and production of subscription brochure, single ticket brochure, monthly e-newsletter, and other various campaign efforts.
  • Assist department in coordinating and producing press conferences throughout the season, including creating and maintaining timelines, travel schedules/bookings, organizing planning meetings; prepare event kits and monitor “day-of” execution.
  • Provide assistance for department special events including but not limited to EXPO Chicago, Open House Chicago, Chicago Ideas Week and artist CD signings.
  • Coordinate the production and collateral collection for Lyric Notes, our monthly e-newsletter.
  • Train and monitor work of support staff/interns in maintenance of company archives and departmental filing systems for current/completed projects as needed.
  • Maintain press and advertising clippings, including daily review of papers. Distribute to internal list highlights of key media coverage on a weekly basis.
  • Best practices research as assigned by department leaders including to ticket development programs, industry trends and patron database information.
  • Overall office administration duties including placing office supply orders, coordinating needs for new hires, arranging catering for meetings and events. Maintain communication with IT department in terms of equipment needs and malfunctions.
  • Provide organizational and administrative support for the Director of Marketing, Director of PR and Associate Director of Marketing including file management, facilitate communications with other Lyric departments, meeting coordination, travel booking, and maintain the department calendar.



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing or equivalent experience
  • More than two years of experience in a senior administrative support role (in the marketing, advertising or publishing fields is highly desirable, as is experience with graphic design/production or press/media relations ) 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and accomplish results accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-level service environment. 
  • Ability to think beyond the present; problem-solve. 
  • Working knowledge of and comfort working with: 
    • Microsoft suite of products including PowerPoint, Adobe and Photoshop 
    • CRM expertise (Tessitura a strong plus) 


  • Ability to occasionally oversee evening or weekend functions, deployments or performances. 
  • Sitting for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other office equipment.
