Lyric Opera of Chicago to hold ensemble auditions
for singers and dancers for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I
October 13, 14, 15, and 16, 2015

CHICAGO - Lyric Opera of Chicago will hold auditions for singers and dancers for the 2015-16 season production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I. This new-to-Chicago production is part of the company’s American Musical Theater Initiative and features an internationally acclaimed creative team, including Lee Blakeley as director, conductor David Chase, and choreography by Peggy Hickey.

Weekly rates for ensemble performers and solo dancers are subject to the collective bargaining agreement with The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and were set at $1096.50/week in the 2014-15 season. The rehearsal and performance period for The King and I is Monday, April 4 through Sunday, May 22, 2016. There is a possibility of a short extension of the performance period. Ensemble members may also be cast as understudies for some small, named roles.

All singers and dancers seen at the union call must belong to AGMA or Actor’s Equity (Equity Membership candidates will be seen at the non-union calls).

Applicants of Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander descent are particularly encouraged to audition. All ethnicities are welcome.

PLEASE NOTE: applicants must possess physical stamina. Portions of the show involve extensive time spent on knees, in a bowing position; ensemble members will also perform barefoot and men will be bare-chested at times.
