Annual and Planned Giving Internship

Position: Annual and Planned Giving Internship
Supervisor: Annual Giving: Associate Director of Annual Giving, E-fundraising Specialist and Annual Giving Specialist, Planned Giving: Director of Planned Giving

Time Commitment:
Full-time throughout summer preferred; minimum 3 days/week

Our intern will work on a variety of projects for both the Annual Giving department and the Planned Giving office to help us reach our important fundraising goals that are crucial to Lyric Opera’s success.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary tasks within Annual Giving include:
• Assist with Direct Mail pieces; including input on design, research and distribution
• Perform general clerical duties - filing, copying, mail fulfillment
• Complete direct mail analysis and assist in documenting e-blast analytics
• Update Development Handbook and other procedural manuals as assigned
• Archive past print materials in user-friendly reference binders
• Assist in data entry using the Tessitura platform
• Help with Development department events as needed


The Planned Giving program at Lyric Opera allows patrons to leave funds in their wills and Trusts in order to provide major funds for Lyric Opera. All planned givers belong to Lyric’s Overture Society, which conducts numerous activities and special events throughout the year in appreciation of Planned Givers. The intern’s primary duties within the Planned Giving office include:
• Assist with various mailings for Overture Society events and initiatives
• Input RSVPs for our Planned Giving events in the 14/15 season
• Edit various materials, including invitations, follow-up letters, and e-newsletters
• Help with processing new Planned Gifts and updating accounts in Tessitura
• Organize Planned Giving Prospect files
• Support our effort to increase awareness of our Planned Giving program by helping to update our website and enhance our e-newsletters and e-mail communications
• Conduct other activities with prospective planned givers related to the upcoming capital campaign and annual fundraising


Required Knowledge/Skills:
Successful candidates must have superior organizational skills and a genuine passion for order. Must be detail oriented and be able to handle multiple tasks proficiently. Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. Computer literacy is required, with an emphasis in Word, Excel, and the Windows environment.
