Maia Surace is a Mezzo-Soprano who is in her 6th year as a Lyric Opera chorister. As a member of the Lyric Opera Chorus, she most recently covered the role of Krystina/The Passenger. Other roles at Lyric have included an apprentice/Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, Lottie/Show Boat, and Zena/Katya Kabanova. Maia has also portrayed Tisbe/La Cenerentola in Lyric’s “Opera in the Neighborhoods” program. Other portrayals include A Secretary/Nixon in China (Chicago Opera Theater), Cherubino/Le Nozze di Figaro (DuPage Opera Theater), title role/Handel’s Orlando and Rosalinda/Offenbach’s Bluebeard (both with Glimmerglass Opera), Jenny Diver/The Beggar’s Opera (Castleton Festival), Speranza/Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (BAM Festival), and various roles with Cincinnati Opera’s outreach program. Maia serves as a soloist at Sinai Temple Chicago. This year’s highlights include recitals for the Chicago Cultural Center Chamber Mondays, the Union League Club, 4th Presbyterian Church Artists in Recital, and alto soloist for J.S. Bach’s Mass in B Minor at St. Luke’s Church.
