Evan Boyer

Bass Evan Boyer is a third-year Ryan Opera Center member. In 2009, the Louisville, Kentucky native was a national semifinalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He was awarded first place in the 2010 Union League Civic and Arts Foundation competition and has received awards from the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation, the Giulio Gari Foundation, and the American Opera Society Competition. Boyer's appearances encompass a variety of roles in La sonnambula, Antony and Cleopatra, The Rake's Progress, Don Giovanni, Wozzeck, Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, and Golijov's Ainadamar (all at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music); Act Four of La bohème (San Francisco Opera's Merola program); Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Tanglewood Music Center); L'incoronazione di Poppea and La traviata (Chautauqua Institution); and Così fan tutte and Eugene Onegin (Northwestern University). Recent performances include his European debut as Sarastro/The Magic Flute at Garsington Opera, Oreste/Cavalli's Giasone (debut) and Créon/Charpentier's Medea, both at Chicago Opera Theater, and his Carnegie Hall debut in Salome with the Cleveland Orchestra. The bass has appeared at Lyric Opera in Macbeth (debut), The Girl of the Golden West, Lohengrin, Carmen student matinees, The Tales of Hoffmann, Boris Godunov, Ariadne auf Naxos, The Magic Flute, and Aida. This season at Lyric he will be seen in Simon Boccanegra, La bohème, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, and Rigoletto.
