Lyric Young Professionals (LYP), a project of the Renée Fleming Initiative, is a group of dynamic opera lovers dedicated to building a new generation of supporters for Lyric Opera of Chicago – and they’ve got big plans for Lyric’s new season, which starts October 1. Performances and afterparties, opera-trivia nights and special events including an AKIRA runway fashion show are among the exclusive benefits for LYP members.

Lyric Young Professionals is a group for those who

  • are between the ages of 21 and 45;
  • want to network with like-minded professionals;
  • enjoy attending unique social events;
  • are interested in learning about opera;
  • want to be a part of the new generation of Lyric’s supporters.

Membership in Lyric Young Professionals has minimum annual dues of $150. Exclusive member benefits include

  • complimentary admission to LYP events;
  • specially priced tickets for Lyric performances through Encore Evenings;
  • unique events ranging from a casual night out to the AKIRA fashion show to the black-tie event Fantasy of the Opera;
  • networking and social forum for those interested in learning more about opera;
  • gaining leadership experience through committee and board involvement;
  • the opportunity to volunteer at Operathon, Backstage Tours, and other special events;  and more.

“Lyric Young Professionals is a perfect way to provide a fresh social network and accessibility to opera for the young arts adventurer,” says Renée Fleming, Lyric’s creative consultant – a goal that was outlined in the December 2010 announcement of the Renée Fleming Initiative.”Opera combines drama, music, dance and the visual arts – something for everyone!”

“Lyric Young Professionals offers a great networking and social forum for those interested in getting involved in the arts,” says Minka Bosco, LYP membership chair. “Whether you are an opera novice or a seasoned expert, LYP provides terrific events tailored to satisfy your curiosity.  The value of LYP membership is $500 and the dues are only $150.”
