Lyric Opera of Chicago appoints Alexandra Day
to serve as director of public relations, a new position

Lyric Opera of Chicago announced today that Alexandra Day has been appointed director of public relations. This is a new position, reporting to Susan Mathieson Mayer, director of communications. Day begins in early February.

As part of the administrative team for the world-renowned opera company, Day will work closely with Mathieson Mayer and with the director of marketing, Philip Koester, to plan and execute a wide variety of public relations and marketing projects aimed at expanding Lyric’s profile in the local, national, and international media.

Day currently serves as director of communications and business development for Renée Fleming, who was named Lyric’s first-ever creative consultant in December 2010. Day oversees public relations, event production, and digital media for the internationally acclaimed soprano. Day will conclude her services as director of communications and business development for Fleming in January before moving to Chicago and assuming her new responsibilities at Lyric in February.

Day began her career with the International Herald Tribune in Paris, where she also worked for IMG Artists and Universal Music. She returned to New York in 2006 to join the press department of the Metropolitan Opera, where she served as special projects manager until she began to work with Fleming. Day is a graduate of Princeton University.

Day will manage and promote numerous special projects to broaden the visibility of Lyric Opera, as well as cultivate partnerships with cultural and civic organizations in Chicago. Additionally, she will serve as a key liaison to Fleming, working to promote audience-development programs supported by Lyric as part of the Renée Fleming Initiative.
