Dancing in the aisles? Why not! It’s the most famous operetta ever with glorious tunes and a fizz-filled plot that keeps bubbling along!

We’re right in the heart of Vienna, where Eisenstein is being summoned to jail for insulting a civil servant; his wife’s a little too pleased at being secretly romanced by an amorous tenor; his maid’s maneuvering to crash the prince’s party; and his old friend is looking for revenge: after a costume ball, Eisenstein left him in a park—drunk as a skunk—and dressed as a bat (die Fledermaus)!

Is disaster imminent? Of course not, because there’s plenty of champagne for everyone and in the end it’s happily ever after for all.

“This production is a delightful reminder of how much pleasure can be had from Strauss’s operetta...American director E. Loren Meeker brings it to life with energy and abundant charm.” Opera News

Lyric Opera presentation generously made possible by the Donna Van Eekeren Foundation and Katherine A. Abelson and Robert J. Cornell.
