Opening Night Gala Performance and Opera Ball 2008
Saturday, September 27 at 6:00 pm
As guests walk the red carpet and enter the Civic Opera House in its Opening Night splendor, they will find a foyer that is transformed with beautiful décor inspired by the performance. The evening will include delicious hors d'ouevres and desserts, with sparkling water and champagne available as well. The Opening Night performance will be Lyric's production of Jules Massenet's Manon, starring Natalie Dessay as Manon, Jonas Kaufmann as Des Grieux, Christopher Feigum as Lescaut, and David Cangelosi as Guillot.
Those attending the Opening Night Gala performance are also invited to purchase tickets to the Opera Ball held at the Hilton Chicago, immediately following the performance. This black-tie affair gives opera lovers the opportunity to celebrate Opening Night with the stars of the show!

OPERATHON is conducted by the Lyric Opera Chapters with all proceeds supporting Lyric Opera of Chicago's education and outreach programs for children, adults, and seniors. Chapter members have the opportunity to volunteer to work on OPERATHON day in a variety of tasks...talk to donors by being on the "front line" in the phone room, tabulating the sales and contributions, networking with fellow volunteers, welcoming fellow chapter members and orienting them to their assigned duties. Chapter member involvement is essential to Lyric's success.
Stars from Lyric's productions are heard on-air, encouraging listeners to phone in their pledges of support. A stunning selection of Lyric Opera merchandise, autographed items, as well as restaurant and premium certificates are offered via the OPERATHON catalog. A selection of 2008 merchandise will be available in our online gift shop in September.

Great food! Great music! Great friends! That sums up the annual Fantasy of the Opera benefit at the Civic Opera House presented by the Lyric Opera Guild Board of Directors. Fantasy has been heating up Chicago's winter social scene, all the while raising important funds to benefit Lyric. It is one of Lyric's most exciting and elegant black-tie events of the opera season. Join 600 guests at to celebrate Fantasy's 25th anniversary.
