Student MatineesStudent Matinees make it possible for students to experience world-class opera in a fully staged production at the Civic Opera House. Students marvel at the opulent setting, the magnificent sounds of the Lyric Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the lavish sets and costumes, the evocative lighting, and the beautiful voices of talented young singers in the lead roles. (Students are always amazed to learn that opera singers don’t use microphones.) Each performance features English translations projected above the stage, and study guides are provided to teachers and students in preparation for attending the opera. Teachers may also participate in an educator workshop scheduled approximately six weeks prior to the Student Matinee (see Workshops and Professional Development Seminars ).
