Student Backstage Tours

Grades 3 – 12
Available: October 2009 – March 2010, 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Fee: $5 per person 

Student Backstage Tours enable students to see the inner workings of the Civic Opera House and learn what really goes on behind the scenes of a world-class opera company. Guided by the trained docents of Lyric's Education Corps, students are dazzled by the elegance of the Ardis Krainik Theatre and its enormous stage, amazed at the intricacies of wig and wardrobe fabrication, and astonished at the tricks of props and armor assembly. They traverse a catwalk high above the stage, and view the orchestra pit, dressing rooms, and scenery handling areas. Students even try on authentic costumes and armor.
