It's just one month until our season opens in September! In this month's Lyric Notes, enjoy backstage glimpses into the sumptuous costumes planned for Don Giovanni and learn more about the cast of Capriccio; hear from Chorus Master Michael Black as he prepares the grand chorus scenes for Il Trovatore; learn about the behind the scenes making of Bel Canto; and more!
Lyric's Chorus delights in II Trovatore and beyond
Verdi’s Il Trovatore—on stage at Lyric October 27 through November 29—is a choral feast and provides one of the biggest showpieces for the amazing Lyric Opera Chorus this season.
Designing Don Giovanni
Opera’s irresistible bad-boy seducer, Don Giovanni, is getting a whole different look at Lyric this fall. In the new production staged by Robert Falls, the Don will suavely work his wiles like a star of the silver screen, circa 1920s—but in living color.
A superstar cast for Strauss’s Capriccio
From October 6 through 28, creative consultant Renée Fleming once again graces the stage at Lyric singing one of her greatest roles—Countess Madeleine in Strauss’s final opera, Capriccio.
Joy In Singing: Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi debuts at Lyric in Porgy and Bess
You can’t sing “Summertime” without a special warmth in your voice, sincerity in your expression, and the ability to communicate the sheer joy of singing. Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi has all that.
Bel Canto workshop
Composer Jimmy López and librettist Nilo Cruz heard their music and words come to life in July when members of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago read through portions of Bel Canto backstage at the Civic Opera House.
Lyric Notes is part of the Innovation Initiative made possible by Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan.
