Auditions

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Lyric Opera of Chicago. You will find current audition opportunities at the bottom of this page. Singers and instrumentalists wishing to receive audition information from Lyric Opera of Chicago or The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center may contact the appropriate administrators as follows:

Solo Artists

Lyric grants auditions for principal roles to professional opera singers on an invitation-only basis. The artist's management should contact Lyric's associate artistic administrator or email soloaud@lyricopera.org with requests for an audition.

Orchestra and Assistant Conductors/Music Staff

Lyric Opera Orchestra is not scheduling auditions at this time. Auditions for orchestra members and assistant conductors are held only when positions become available. Orchestra position announcements will be placed in the monthly trade publications International Musician and Intermezzo. If you would like to be considered for an Assistant Conductor position, or as a "substitute" orchestra player, please forward a resume to: Music Administrator, Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606; or via fax: (312) 419-0820; or via email: orchaud@lyricopera.org

Chorus

The Lyric Opera Chorus is a professional ensemble of approximately 48 full-time members. Classically trained singers in all voice categories who are prepared for a professional career should apply. General auditions for all positions (part-time supplementary chorus work included) are typically held in January each year. Applicants are required to prove that they are a United States citizen, permanent resident, or have legal permission to work in the United States.

Seasonal Artists

Some productions may require individuals with special talents to perform on stage, including:

  • Ballet

  • Children's Chorus

  • Supernumeraries ("extras")

  • Actors

Auditions for these roles are conducted on an "as needed" basis only; to find out about current/upcoming opportunities, please call the Audition Hotline at (312) 827-3548.
