AUDITIONS

Singers and instrumentalists wishing to receive audition information from Lyric Opera or The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center may contact the appropriate administrators as follows:

Solo Artists
General auditions are scheduled periodically throughout the year, in Chicago and New York City. Professionally-trained opera singers interested in notification about a future audition call may forward a resume and photograph (no audition tapes, please) to: Artistic Administrator, Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Orchestra and Assistant Conductors/Music Staff
Auditions for orchestra members and assistant conductors are held only when positions become available. Orchestra position announcements will be placed in the monthly trade publications International Musician and Intermezzo. If you would like to be considered for an Assistant Conductor position, or as a "substitute" orchestra player, please forward a resume to: Music Administrator, Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Lyric Opera of Chicago announces the following orchestra openings beginning in the 2008-2009 Season:

PRINCIPAL TROMBONE
SECOND HORN

Beginning 2008-2009 Season (26 weeks total, September-March)
$2,275/week ($59,150) plus $1,625 media guarantee,
18% paid vacation and year-round health/life insurance.
Principal Trombone will receive additional principal overscale of 30%, making the base weekly salary of $2,975.50, and a 26-week base of $76,895.

The audition committee of the Lyric Opera Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.




Chorus
The Lyric Opera Chorus is a professional ensemble of approximately 48 full-time members. Classically trained singers in all voice categories who are prepared for a professional career should apply. General auditions for all positions (part-time supplementary chorus work included) are typically held in January each year. Applicants are required to prove that they are a United States citizen, permanent resident, or have legal permission to work in the United States.

All positions for the 2008-2009 season chorus have been filled. Please check our website in November of 2008 for information regarding the 2009-2010 season's Chorus Auditions.

Seasonal Artists
Some productions may require individuals with special talents to perform on stage, including:

  • Ballet
    All ballet positions for the 2008-2009 season have been filled.

  • Children's Chorus


  • Supernumeraries ("extras")
